3.<\/strong>\u4e86\u89e3\u4f60\u7684\u53e6\u4e00\u534a<\/strong>—-\u7576\u4f60\u770b\u5230\u4e00\u500b\u7570\u6027\uff08\u7121\u8ad6\u5728\u64cd\u5834\u4e0a\u3001\u6559\u5ba4\u88e1\uff0c\u5496\u5561\u9928\uff0c\u6216\u64c1\u64e0\u7684\u5834\u5408\u88e1….\uff09\uff0c\u4f60\u88ab\u4ed6\u5438\u5f15\u4e26\u5fc3\u52d5, \u5225\u6025\uff01\u6700\u597d\u5728\u4e0d\u540c\u7684\u5834\u5408\u8ddf\u4ed6\u6709\u76f8\u8655\u7684\u6642\u9593\uff0c\u597d\u597d\u5730\u53bb\u4e86\u89e3\u9019\u500b\u4eba\u3002\u7238\u7238\u5efa\u8b70\u770b\u4eba\u8981\u770b\u662f\u5426\u6709\u9032\u53d6\u5fc3\uff0c\u53ef\u4ee5\u9080\u8acb\u4ed6\u4f86\u5bb6\u88e1\u4e00\u8d77\u5f9e\u73a9\u904a\u6232\u4e2d\u89c0\u5bdf\u3002\u6700\u5f8c\uff0c\u4e5f\u662f\u6700\u91cd\u8981\u7684\uff0c\u5c31\u662f\u8a62\u554f\u795e\u7684\u65e8\u610f\u3002\u4e26\u771f\u5fc3\u807d\u807d\u4f60\u5bb6\u4eba\u53ca\u670b\u53cb\u5c0d\u4ed6\u7684\u770b\u6cd5\u3002<\/p>\n

Conversations with a 5 year old About Marriage<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The other morning C turned to me and announced, \u201cI think I\u2019m going to marry T.\u201d<\/p>\n

My immediate\u00a0reaction was, \u201cWhy do you want to marry T?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause he\u2019s silly. And he has a round head.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ahh\u2026 I see. In previous conversations with my 5 year old munchkin, she had stated that she wants to marry someone like her Baba. Someone with the important characteristics of:<\/p>\n

#1 \u2013\u00a0A silly nature<\/p>\n

#2 \u2013 A round head\u00a0(If you haven\u2019t noticed by now, C has an affinity for circular<\/a>\u00a0things, heads included.)<\/p>\n

She then proceeded to ask, \u201cWho else do you think I can marry?\u201d<\/p>\n

With raised eyebrows, I replied, \u201cBut you know you can only marry one person.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI know!\u201d she answered matter-of-factly.<\/p>\n

Obviously, she\u2019s still thinking about the matter.<\/p>\n

As\u00a0C ponders about her future hubby, I thought I\u2019d come up with three points for her (and E) to consider about marriage (some 15-20 years from now of course). These are things I wish I had known when I was 5.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Understand\u00a0yourself.\u00a0<\/strong>Know what your personality is like, particularly the traits that could drive your future spouse bananas. This includes being passive-aggressive when upset (ahem, maybe me) or messy\/forgetful much of the time (ahem, definitely not\u00a0me). Be willing to accept input from family and friends who know you well and have your best interests at heart, and focus on growing and changing to be the most loving version of yourself. Be happy and whole as an individual, try new things, have fun, and live the life God has given you\u00a0to the fullest.<\/li>\n
  2. Understand\u00a0relationships.\u00a0<\/strong>Don\u2019t\u00a0base your ideas and expectations of a relationship off of Hollywood movies or romance books. Know that people are complicated and messy on their own, and mixing two people\u2019s complications and messiness together only equals\u00a0more complications and messiness. Strengthen\u00a0your communication\u00a0skills in the areas of listening, resolving conflict and negotiation because these skills will help you thrive in all kinds of relationships.<\/li>\n
  3. Understand your significant other.\u00a0<\/strong>When you do spot someone (on the playground, in a\u00a0classroom, at the cafe, across a crowded room, etc.),\u00a0who sparks your interest, get to know the person better. Preferably in different situations and over the course of a long time. Baba recommends observing the person\u2019s competitive spirit, so please\u00a0invite that person over for a game of\u00a0Mario Kart sometime. Lastly, but most importantly, ask for\u00a0God\u2019s, your family\u2019s and friends\u2019 input about the person and listen with both your ears and your heart.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Then \u2026 when you think you\u2019re ready for a relationship (with all of its beautiful and adventurous\u00a0ups and downs) and have found a person whom you adore and adores you back, break the news to Baba and me gently ,so we can accept the fact that our little munchkins won\u2019t\u00a0stay little\u00a0forever.<\/p>\n

    In the meantime, I\u2019ll be keeping an eye on Mr. T.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
